Side by Side Vintage “Best Gun”
PURDEY
Shotguns
Category : D
Caliber : 12GA / 2½"
A gorgeous and rare “Best Gun” made in 1893, incorporating the traditional Frederick BEESLEY side locks & easy opening system associated to WEM ejectors and PURDEY double sliding bolts.
The whole action and furniture extremely finely engraved, certainly by J. LUCAS, in traditional “Best Bouquet & Scrolls” and retaining some original faint colour case hardening.
The slightly darkened 29” chopper lump barrels still have a .7295" bore and the chokes remain 2/10° & 3/10°; however they could benefit of a new honing even if the previous owner has always preferred to left them in their original state.
A niece piece of dense reddish French walnut was used to make the 14¾" LOP straight stock that includes an original ½" ebony extension.
The fine checkering is perfectly preserved.
The gun is fitted in a PURDEY oak and leather case with accessories and labels.
Perfect in every respect, with flawless functioning and shooting.
6lbs.6oz. net weight and, indeed, a perfect balance.
