Type B Mauser 1914 - 8x57JS

MAUSER ORIGINAL OBERNDORF

Rifles

Category : C

Caliber : 8x57JS

This Original Mauser hunting rifle was proofed at Oberndorf proof house during the first quarter of 1914.

A type B model, it is built on a commercial Model 98 action featuring a single trigger and a hinged floorplate magazine.

The 24" barrel is chambered for the 8x57JS cartridge and is fitted with a tangent-leaf rear sight, graduated to 1,000 meters with a push-button slider, that, while derived from the military version, is specific to commercial models.

It is regulated for a fine silver bead front sight set on a long, knurled ramp and protected by a sliding hood.

The 14" LOP stock, crafted from dense-grained European walnut, features the characteristic profile of Oberndorf factory production: a short Schnabel forend, a checkered grip with a steel cap, and the traditional pressed black horn buttplate bearing the WM monogram for Waffenfabrik Mauser.

Remarkable for a firearm over a century old is the pristine condition of the metalwork; it retains virtually all its original finish, including a superb slow rust bluing and significant traces of nitre blue on the bolt stop, rear sight slider, and screws.

The receiver ring features an elegant anti-glare hand engraved finish with decorative border, and the Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf ^A/_N marking on the left receiver wall is flawless.

The shiny barrel bore, appearing absolutely new, bright, and spotless, indicates that this Mauser has seen very little use or firing.

Naturally, its mechanical operation, feeding, and accuracy are outstanding.

On the right side of the wooden stock, one notices a scattering of small holes; these are not caused by woodworm larvae but are the result of a pellet strike—inadvertently sustained during a hunt!

This minor blemish adds to the history of this carbine as it has become difficult to find such an early example in such a perfect state of preservation.

This "Type B" model weighs just 6lb-14oz. and comes with our unconditional guarantee.
