Special order .30US Mauser sporter
MAUSER ORIGINAL OBERNDORF
Rifles
Category : C
Caliber : 30-06 GVT
Very rare Original Mauser hunting rifle built in 1939 at the Oberndorf factory on special order for H. Zehner in Frankfurt.
The commercial 98' system is fitted with a German double set trigger and an inside trigger guard button locked opening straddle floorplate magazine.
The 24" barrel, octagonal then round, is currently chambered for the 30-06 US Springfield cartridge. Its machined rib bears the front base of a Suhl claw mount followed by a three silver lined leaves rear sight whose u-shaped notch is regulated on the silver bead front sight set on the ramp raised at the end of the rib.
While the action is a n°12, specific to the 30-06, the mirror bore barrel seems to have left the factory as a 7X64 Brenneke that has been bored and rifled at .308" with 10" twist. The headspace is perfect, the accuracy remarkable while the shot brass shows a double venturi in the manner of the original 7x66 vom Hofe.
The 14½" LOP stock is made of beautifully figured French walnut, and sports a short forend ended by a black buffalo schnabel. An oval beaded cheekpiece, a steel grip cap, a superb checkering and a Mauser monogrammed horn butt plate finish this beautiful stock.
The civilian 98'action with anti-reflective knurled front ring supports the rear base of the claw mount mount encrusted on the rear bridge and its side is marked "Mauserwerke A.G Oberndorf a/N".
This rifle is now fitted with a Carl Zeiss Diavari D 1.5-6x36-ret.1 scope, a bright optics in near-new condition retaining its leather protections.
The whole has been the subject of a rigorous restoration of the highest quality and does not suffer from any reproach either on the functional side as on that of the accuracy, this Mauser delivering a precision at least equal to the industrial modern products with a safety feature that only the 98' system can offer.
The rifle weighs 8lbs 2oz. and 9lbs 6oz with the Zeiss Diavari mounted.
