This rare Winchester 70 pre 64 "Westerner" caliber .264 Winch. Mag left the New-Haven factory in 1960 before being imported into France by Ets Humbert in Saint-Etienne where it underwent the French proof test as evidenced by the marks on the barrel.

This rifle, established for this high performance .264" caliber, uses a 26" stainless steel barrel fitted to the famous pre 64 forged steel action.

It is on this basis that we have built this luxury custom version.

The action has been meticulously blue printed and the receiver tail milled in cloverleaf shape.

The magazine is now a monobloc Oberndorf type machined in steel, the bolt stop bears an oversize knob, the match type single stage trigger is set for a clean 1lb. let off and the safety details on the bolt shroud as well as the serial number on the trigger guard are inlaid in gold.

The barrel, hand polished lengthwise, carries a brazed swivel base and retains the original front sight ramp and the rear sight boss.

If the entire action has received a deep black bluing, satin for the receiver and the operating lever, the stainless steel tube has been treated in matching black ceramic coating.

For the 14½" LOP stock we used a superb piece of French walnut (juglans regia) for modeling a classic D&D shape with Griffin & Howe beaded cheekpiece and rounded forend finished with a polished ebony tip.

The elongated grip is finished with a steel cap, superbly engraved with a rosette, while the trapped butt plate, with reserve for three cartridges, is a period Albright Products C° of the finest quality.

To scope this rifle with optics from the same period, we opted for an "El Paso" Weaver K10-60-3, with a fine crosshair reticle, set on Redfield Jr. period mount and Ø 1" six screws rings.

Ready to shoot, this W70 Custom weighs 8lbs 2oz and 9lbs 4oz scoped.

Of course, this rifle has been tested and sighted with 140gr cartridges and this D&D Custom W70 Westerner supports our full warranty.
