Outstanding Winchester pre-64 mod. 70 Super-Grade rifle (type III, variation 3)* chambered for the classic .270 Winchester cartridge, produced in New Haven in 1957.
This rifle is fitted with an alloy steel 24" barrel with integral front and rear sights bases machined from the blank. The front sight ramp supports an original Lyman mod.31 bead under factory sliding protector while the rear sight boss dovetail is protected by a Marble steel blank.
The receiver sports a superb period scope, a centered crosshair reticle Weaver K4-60C, in mint condition, manufactured in El Paso, USA during the same period.
This 4x, 1" steel-tube, scope is firmly attached on a rare six-screw Redfield Jr. period mount.
All the parts, the weapon like the accessories and fittings, are machined blued steel.
The Super-Grade stock, with cheekpiece and Monte Carlo comb, is crafted from beautifully figured American walnut (juglans nigra). The fore-end features a black tip, while a blued steel cap protects the pistol grip.
The comb bears a 14K gold oval, free of any engraving.
The oil-finished stock retains a perfectly preserved checkering; its LOP, measured on the Winchester labeled orange-red rubber buttplate, reads 13½".
The sling mounts are specific to the Super-Grade version, and this rifle comes with its period leather sling and the two original quick-detachable swivels.
The original trigger is perfectly tuned to a 45oz single stage let-off.
The bare rifle, with its Redfield mount, weighs 8lb-4oz, and 9lb-2oz scoped.
Tested at the range with 130-grain loads, this rifle delivers exceptional accuracy.
The entire unit has undergone a meticulous restoration in our workshop to preserve its original specifications without any modifications.
This Super-Grade pre-64 Winchester mod. 70, superb specimen of "Rifleman's Rifle", benefits of course from our entire warranty.
