Caliber : .375 H&H Magnum
This fine sample of pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 "Express" .375 H&H Magnum transition model rolled off the production line at the New Haven factory in 1941.
This particular rifle has been optimized by a subtle yet well-executed customization.
The magnum receiver retains the pinched tang of pre-war production, and the abbreviated flag on the milled safety shroud has been replaced with a custom lever for easier operation.
The 25" perfect bore barrel is a mid-heavyweight chrome molybdenum steel tube, six-grooves rifled on 12" twist.
It features the famous 70A "Rollover Express" rear sight and, mounted on a short ramp, a Lyman No. 37 gold bead front sight under protective tunnel.
The LYMAN All-Weather "Alaskan" 2.5x scope with crosshair reticle is mounted on vintage 7/8" REDFIELD six-screw rings set on two pieces bases.
All parts of the rifle are machined steel and retain perfect bluing.
The stock, with beaded pancake oval cheekpiece, ebony forend tip and perfectly executed checkering, is made of beautiful American walnut (Juglans Nigra).
It is reinforced at the receiver by a cross bolt, and its 14" LOP is measured on the solid 7/8" red rubber recoil pad.
Finally, to allow for a lower stock position in the woods, the front sling swivel stud is now welded under the barrel.
This .375 H&H WINCHESTER "Express" represents the epitome of the Africa professional choice; allying the best features of the proven Mauser 98' controlled feeding system to the fluidity and balance of the modern American big game rifle.
With its five shots capacity, it's one of the best all around safari rifle.
The scoped rifle weights 9lb-9oz.
