Pre-64 Mod.70 .220 Swift & Lyman STS
WINCHESTER
Rifles
Category : C
Caliber : .220 Swift
Rare variant of the legendary Mod. 70 pre-64 WINCHESTER rifle, one example of the 900 ever made Varmint versions chambered for the superbly accurate .220 Swift, leaving the New Haven factory in 1961.
Despite its sixty years, this rifle is in a perfectly preserved state, close to new.
The 26" mirror bore barrel don't bear sights, only supporting target scope blocks.
This straight taper semi-heavy contoured barrel is made of stainless steel and to get the typical smokey blue finish it got ferrous metallic deposit by electrodeposition before being hot salt blued.
The rifle is fitted with a rare period 15x magnification LYMAN Super Target Spot scope on rare steel machined "Micro Click" 1937 and fitted with fine crosshair reticle.
This scope, in rigorously new condition, is kept in its period wooden box, when it is not mounted on the prismatic bases.
Like the weapon, the scope is close to new, both from optical and cosmetic point of view.
The 13½" LOP stock, made of American walnut (juglans nigra) retains its original black composition buttplate and carries a 1907 type leather sling on the 1½" swivels specific to this version.
Interesting option, a sub caliber false cartridge allows shooting .22 Hornet rounds.
This rifle hasn't undergone any alteration and retains its original trigger set for crisp 2 lbs. let off.
With its long and heavy barrel, the rifle and scope combo weights 11 lbs. 9oz. while the rifle alone goes for a 9 lbs. 13oz. weight.
Indeed the whole set benefits from our full guarantee.
