Category : C
Caliber : .220 Swift
Rare variant of the mythical pre-64 WINCHESTER Mod. 70, one of the 900 varmint medium weight barrel samples chambered for the .220 Swift cartridge, this rifle left the New Haven factory in 1961.
The sixty years old rifle is in a superbly preserved state of conservation with a mirror bore 26" stainless steel barrel.
This barrel has a semi-heavy varmint profile whose taper goes from 1.3/16" to ¾" at the muzzle.
Being made of stainless steel, to get the typical smokey blue finish it got ferrous metallic deposit by electrodeposition before being hot salt blued.
The rifle is fitted with a period made in El Paso WEAVER K8 [Weaver K8] fine crosshair scope on BUEHLER 1" rings, a sturdy mount designed by Maynard P. Buehler in Orinda, CA.
The 13½" LOP stock, made of American walnut (juglans nigra) ends on a slim red rubber butpad and carries a superb adjustable leather sling with nickel-plated brass fittings on quick detachable 1½" swivels.
The original trigger is set for crisp 2 lbs. let off and the rifle and scope combo weights 11 lbs. while the rifle alone goes for 9 lbs. 12oz. on the scale.
