RASER "Velox" M-S 1900 Take-Down Rifle
FRASER Daniel
Rifles
Category : C
Caliber : 6,5x54 MS
A superb example of a takedown rifle that left the workshops of master gunmaker Daniel Fraser in Edinburgh in 1910.
This "Velox" model is built on a modified Mannlicher-Schönauer Mod. 1900 commercial action fitted with the renowned "Fraser Trigger Action" safety mechanism.
The 25 ¾" barrel, chambered for the traditional 6.5x54MS [.256 Mannlicher] can be quickly detached after removing the Deeley & Edge latch-style forend and unscrewing the locking pin located on the left side of the receiver ring.
Engraved with the manufacturer's mark "Daniel Fraser & Co. Ltd, London & Edinburgh" across two lines, it features a rear sight with three leaves, inlaid with platinum lines, regulated for 100, 200, and 300 yards.
Mounted on a handsome extended ramp, the front sight is protected by a sliding hood and combines a moon- sight with a fine bead, both featuring white enamel highlights.
A folding Lyman No. 1 peep sight is fitted to the bolt shroud to ensure a perfectly crisp sight picture.
The barrel assembly fits tightly with no play, and once the forend is locked, the headspace remains perfectly constant.
Feeding is naturally flawless, as the commercial Model 1900 is renowned for the precision engineering of its rotary magazine and the perfect adjustment of its bolt mechanism.
The overall finish is truly remarkable, featuring ornamentation that is understated yet exquisitely executed.
The original bluing, despite dating back some 120 years, retains its full luster, a testament to the care taken in preserving this rifle, which appears to have seen very little use or firing.
The French walnut [juglans regia] stock is typical of the Edinburgh master's work, combining an elongated grip with a slim cheekpiece, pronounced action reinforcements, and a forend featuring Alexander Henry style shaping.
The stock measures 14 ¾" from the Fraser patent trigger to the center of the hand checkered black horn buttplate.
Both the grip and the forend retain their original, extensive checkering.
This 7lbs 60z rifle is presented disassembled, along with its accessories, in a magnificent leather case, which is itself covered in heavy canvas trimmed with pigskin.
The entire set, like the firearm itself, is in a perfect state of preservation.
Daniel FRASER's firearms, always of exceptional quality, are rare on the continental market, and it is even rarer to encounter a "VELOX" takedown model in such a pristine state.
