"The Rabbit Rifle"

Rifles

Category : C

Caliber : .22 Hornet

We built this small-caliber rifle on a heavily modified ZIEGENHAHN & DIEM action, originally designed for the 5.6x35R cartridge.

After blueprinting the action, we rebuilt the firing and trigger mechanisms using an ERA trigger unit as working base.

The robust locking lug has been carefully lapped, and a new pivoting extractor was fitted to the breech face.

The rear base of the claw mount is securely integrated into the receiver.

The .22 Hornet 24½" LOTHAR WALTHER Match-Grade barrel features a sighting system consisting of a standard wide-V express rear sight with a folded gold-lined leaf regulated on the fine silver front bead set on a lanceolate ramp.

The rear sight base is extended to accommodate the claw mount front plate, while the barrel muzzle is protected by an 11° crown.

The 14½" LOP stock, crafted from beautifully figured French walnut, follows the classic D&D style, combining an elongated pistol grip, a straight comb, an oval beaded cheekpiece and a polished ebony forend tip.

The grip ends on a steel cap, while the trapdoor buttplate houses four cartridges in individual compartments beneath the hinged cover.

Ornamentation consists of exquisite fine English scroll engraving that extends across the receiver, bottom metal, trigger guard, grip cap, buttplate, scope mount, and fittings.

The bolt stop on the receiver left side, the trigger, the cocking piece, the grip cap, the buttplate, and all screws are bone and charcoal color case hardened.

While all metal parts are finely blued, hand engraved markings, serial number inlaid in shaded gold on the trigger guard and on receiver ring left side, and the safety’s S -> detail enhance the elegant finish.

The KAHLES Helia CT 2-7x36 R4A scope is mounted as low as possible on the hand-fitted claw mount system.

** This small-caliber firearm is not merely a scaled-down version of a standard rifle; it replicates the dimensions and balance of the full-sized model. Its creation required considerable time and patience, efforts rewarded at the range by its surprising accuracy. **
