Caliber : .270 Winchester
Outstanding Winchester pre-64 mod. 70 rifle (type III, variation 3)[1] chambered for the classic .270 Winchester produced in New Haven in 1953.
This weapon is a temporal parenthesis because it is in such a state of preservation that it seems having left the factory a month ago!
This rifle is fitted with an alloy steel 24" barrel with integral front and rear sights bases machined from the blank. The front sight support bears an original Lyman mod.31 bead under factory sliding protector while the rear sight is the traditional Lyman mod.16 with adjustable and folding leaf.
The receiver sports a made in El Paso vintage Weaver K4-60C (pdf) crosshair scope positioned very low on a rare Redfield Jr Ø 1" period mount.
All the parts, the weapon like the accessories and fittings, are machined blued steel.
The low Monte-Carlo comb stock is made of American walnut, and while showing a few very faint handling marks, it retains all the original factory finish and displays a 13½" LOP measured on the original checkered steel butt plate.
That rifle didn't suffered from any modification except for a perfectly tuned 2 lbs. single stage trigger.
The bare rifle, with the Redfield base, weighs 8lb-8oz and 9lb-7oz Weaver scoped.
The whole assembly is in an astonishing state of conservation, its operation remains tight and smooth and its mirror bore barrel is as new.
This pre-64 Winchester mod. 70, superb specimen of "Rifleman's Rifle", benefits of course from our entire warranty.
