.500NE Big Bore W-R Double Rifle
WESTLEY-RICHARDS
Rifles
Category : C
Caliber : .500 Nitro Express 3"
This imposing "Big Bore" express double rifle left the WESTLEY RICHARDS & C° Ltd factory in 1908 for ARMY & NAVY CS Ltd (Army & Navy Store Co-Operative Society Limited)[1] in London.
It uses the original system of Messrs. William Anson & John Deeley as patented in April 1884.
The heavy action is fitted with traditional Purdey double bolting closure reinforced by a third lock by sliding key at the doll head.
The 28" barrels, chambered for the formidable .500NE 3", rotate on a big diameter pin and retain, in spite of their age and the use of cordite, a very good state of conservation with clean bore and sharp grooves.
Their convergence, set at 60 yards for the 570 grain bullet, is held firmly by a monobloc wedge at the muzzle.
The interrupted sighting rib bears a five gold lined leaves express sight regulated on the gold bead and combined moon front sight under sliding protector.
The newly made stock, of superbly figured walnut, displays 15" LOP and ends with a red Silver's butt pad while the forend is locked by a traditional Purdey button.
This rifle has been fully refurbished by Alfred SCHILLING who kept the original engraving before applying his famous bone and charcoal color case hardening.
With its 11 lbs 14oz weight this "Big Game .500NE Double Rifle" remains pleasant to shoot.
The rifle is delivered with three boxes of cartridges and we keep available ten boxes of new Kynoch 570 grain Soft Nose for the buyer.
The rifle is sold with the "Authentification Certificate" issued by WESTLEY RICHARDS & C° Ltd and signed by the late Simon Clode.
